This inductive proximity sensor from Festo has a barrel body style and will detect ferrous and non-ferrous metallic objects passing within 1.5 mm. It's unaffected by oil or dirt and suitable for use in areas of heavy vibration and shock. You can choose either open-ended or plug electrical connections to configure it to the needs of your system. Sensors of this kind are commonly used in metal-detecting equipment in challenging environments such as oil rigs.
