What is the difference between half and full hex nuts?

Half or full refers to the profile or thickness of the hex nut. Full nuts feature a deeper profile and are suitable for most standard fastening applications, whereas half hex nuts feature a slimmer profile and are suited to bolts with shorter threads. However, both types can be used to fasten various bolts and can also be used together.
