StarTech Adapter, Thunderbolt 3 Connector Type, USB 3.2 USB Specification - 109B-USBC-HDMI

This adapter converts a single USB-C or USB-A host port into two HDMI outputs, enabling connection of two external 4K displays at 60Hz. It operates from host bus power or via USB Power Delivery pass-through up to 100W to power a connected laptop. The device incorporates a DisplayLink controller for multi-display output and is compatible with Windows, macOS, Ubuntu and Chrome OS.

Features and Benefits:

• Supports 3840 x 2160@60Hz dual output for high-resolution workflows
• Provides 100W PD pass-through to maintain laptop charging
• Uses USB 3.2 Gen1 bandwidth for video transfer and compatibility
• DisplayLink DL-6950 enabled for multi-monitor management
• Aluminium enclosure assists EMI shielding and heat dissipation

Applications

• Suitable for extending desktop productivity across two HDMI displays
• Ideal for connecting dual external monitors to USB-C laptops
• Used with Thunderbolt 3 hosts for additional HDMI outputs
• Can be used for conference-room setups requiring 4K60 displays

Which operating systems require driver installation for multi-display support?

macOS requires a driver download for extended displays

Windows and Chrome OS perform automatic driver installation.

How does the device behave when USB-C power is disconnected?

The PD 3.0 Fast Role Swap switches to bus power to prevent USB data disruption.

What audio and video formats are transmitted over HDMI?

HDMI outputs carry 5.1‑channel audio and support common resolutions including 3840 x 2160, 2560 x 1440 and 1920 x 1080.

Is power delivery available when using the USB-A connection?

PD pass-through is not available when the USB-C to USB-A dongle is in use.
