Evaluation Board for USB Cable Isolator Circuit
This Analog Devices evaluation board provides a solution to the requirement for a USB cable where isolation is required for connections to machines that control dangerous voltages or low leakage defibrillation-proof connections in medical applications. The ADuM4160 Full/Low Speed USB Isolator is used to provide the primary isolating function, supported by an ADuM1100 Digital Isolator and an ADuM5000 isolated DC-DC Converter. It should be noted that this custom application is not totally USB compliant as the quiescent current of the converter does not meet the USB standby current requirements. In addition, full USB compliance is impossible as there are no 100% efficient power converters to transfer the bus voltage across the isolation barrier.
