Use this capacitive sensor from RS PRO to detect the presence of both metallic and non-metallic objects without making physical contact. The proximity sensor uses an electrical field to identify materials that are conductive or have a higher dielectric constant than air.
The robust PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) material means that the unit is resistant to both chemicals and heat, so you can use it in a wide range of demanding industrial environments.
