Allen Bradley PowerFlex 525 – Three Phase Inverter Drives
Experience dependable and versatile motor control and greater ease-of-use with the PowerFlex 525 Three Phase Inverter Drives by Allen Bradley. These AC drives are a cost-effective, ideal solution for networked machines and system integration and are highly suitable for applications such as conveyors, fans, pumps, and mixers.
The innovative PowerFlex 525 AC drives offer a modular design which ensures quick and simple installation and configuration to save you valuable time as well as panel space. They provide efficient USB programming, integral EtherNet/IP™ communications, flexible mounting options, application-specific configuration, and standard safety features. They also offer a compact footprint and these resilient Variable Frequency Drives can operate at high temperatures, working up to 70°C (158 °F) with current derating and a control module fan kit.
These devices support a wide variety of motor control options due to their power rating of 0.4...22 kW (0.5...30 Hp), with global voltage classes of 100...600V. The PowerFlex 525 features an integral human interface module (HIM), which supports multiple languages and features descriptive. They include a Safe Torque-off feature which is certified at PLd/SIL2 Cat 3, this function removes rotational power to the motor without removing power from the drive for faster start-up after a demand on the safety system. With the Economizer control mode and energy monitoring features energy costs can be reduced.

What is an Inverter Drive?
An Inverter drive (also known as AC Drive, Variable Frequency Drive, or VFD) is a motor drive device which regulates the amount of power supplied to a motor, allowing for precise control of speed or torque to the motor to suit its application. They are situated between an electrical supply and a motor. Electrical motors run many things we use in our society today and AC drives are used for speed control in a range of applications, such as simple fan and pump loads. These units are also used widely in industrial applications for high torque machine control. Most now have features such as digital operation and LED displays allowing for easy set-up, monitoring, and adjustment of parameters by the user.
How does an Inverter Drive work?
Inverter drives are controlled by inputting specific frequencies or parameters into the device. When power goes through the drive the inverter adjusts the frequency and voltage that is supplied to the motor. They ensure that an electrical motor receives only the necessary amount of power it requires to function, in order to reduce waste or loss of electrical energy, thereby making it more efficient to run. They can also gradually ramp up power for a slower, safer machine start up. Inside the inverter, incoming AC power is converted to DC power via a rectifier made up of diodes, which is then smoothed to a clean, constant voltage by capacitors, and is then fed back out as AC power via output transistors.
