Keyboard Switches or Key switches are an on/off electronic switch that is only on when there is some pressure put on it or when the button is pressed. As soon as the tactile switch button is released and the pressure has been took off, the circuit is then broken. Keyboard switches work with user interaction with the button or switch when it makes contact with the control panel beneath, most cases this is usually a printed circuit board (PCB). Keyboard switches are mostly used for computer keyboards, once the user presses the key on the keyboard this will press the switch down. Once the switch has been pressed down this will then send a signal to the computer telling it that you have pressed that specific key. Keyboard switches are an electromechanical switch for:- Keyboards Keypads Instruments Interface control panel applications There are many types of electric tactile switches available and these are:- SPST (Single Pole Single through) SPDT (single pole double throw) DPST (double pole, single throw) DPDT (double pole double throw)
