Motor Driver ICs

A motor driver IC (integrated circuit) is a chip which is usually used to control motors in the automotive industry. Motor driver ICs (sometimes also refereed to as motor controller ICs) act as an interface between microprocessors and motors.

How do motor driver ICs work?

The motor driver IC receives signals from the microprocessor in your system and then transmits the signal to the motors. It has two voltage pins, one of which is used to draw current and the other is used to apply voltage to the motors. 

Motor driver ICs applications

Motor driver ICs are commonly used in autonomous robotics. Most microprocessors operate at low voltages and require a small amount of current to operate while motors require higher voltages and a higher current. Current cannot be supplied to the motors from the microprocessor, which is why motor driver ICs are needed. They are commonly used in camera lenses or in home appliances such as fans.
